Wow! 2 Weeks Old!

I can hardly believe that tomorrow Miles will be 2 weeks old! I keep thinking it's that 2nd week in March when he was born.
These past few weeks have been such a relief. I had been so nervous about bringing a new baby home and adjusting to this new way of life, but so far, it has been easier than I anticipated. Of course, that's not to say it's been a piece of cake--Ella is definitely having to adjust to sharing mommy and I have had to adjust to getting up every 3 hours to feed the litttle monster--but I haven't been nearly as tired as I was when I was pregnant and now that my body is getting back to normal I am feeling like I can definitely handle my soon to be 3 year old and the cutest newborn on the planet!

Daddy time!

Ella's reaction to her new brother has been pretty good. Leading up to his arrival she really wasn't interested in any of the books that talked about new siblings, and so it was just up to me and Peter to talk about it as much as we could. There have been moments when she didn't want to wait for me to be done doing something with Miles before helping or playing with her, but that seemed to be just in the first week. She is already responding better when I explain that I need to finish feeding him or changing him before I can do whatever she is asking. She also seems to be a little more defiant, but that could just seem like that to me because I am home with her all the time now, rather than working.
But she loves when Miles is awake so she can talk to him. She likes to hold him and she likes to pick out his clothes.

He looks really Asian in this picture! It's kind of deceiving because this kid has light brown hair and blue eyes (that better change into hazel-like mine!). So right now he doesn't really look like our baby! I have no idea where the light brown hair is from!

Such a good helper

On our way to the store.

I had to hurry and get a picture of him in this dinosaur outfit. I had bought this for Aaron when he was born and I just loved it. My sis sent it back to me. But for some reason he pees through it every time he has it on! He hasn't made it a whole day in this yet, and I've tried three times!

It's been a whirlwind these past few days, but I am loving every moment. Miles is a very good baby and such a joy to just sit and look at. I am looking forward to spending the next few months off with my kids! More updates to come!!

Our New Addition!

Miles Allen
6lbs. 11oz.
19 3/4 in
Born at 5:17 am
on March 8th, 2011

Yay! He's finally here! I think he knew how desperate I was to have this pregnancy over with so he made his appearance quite swiftly and of course, right on his due date!
I had been having pretty painful contractions for a few days and on Sunday and Monday was pretty sure that those were the days the contractions would get closer together and more regular. But it took until about 11:00pm on Monday night for me to start timing them. I gave myself until 12:30 and then I called the doctor's office. When I told the nurse that I had been having contractions that were about 10 minutes apart lasting 45 seconds and that it was my second pregnancy, she said, "Oh! You gotta go. Grab your hospital bag and go!" I was kind of surprised because I really thought that the contractions needed to be closer together.
I called my mom to come over to be at the house with Ella and we took off for the hospital!
Peter, thinking it would be another long 12 hour process decided he needed food and made a run through the Wendy's drive thru! Man, am I a nice woman or what!?
We arrived at the hospital right before 2:00am and I was already 5cm dilated and 60% effaced. I was really surprised, but thankful that this meant that I would be admitted and could get an epidural soon!
They got me upstairs, got an IV going, and as soon as they got that first bag of fluid in me, they gave me the epidural (which hurt more than it did the first time). In the meantime we had let our friend Elizabeth know that we were admitted to the hospital so she could go take over for my mom and my parents could get to the hospital.
They did one last cervical check and I was already at 7cm. Now that I was drugged and comfortable it was time to rest...or so we thought.
Peter and I laid there in the dark and talked about what time we thought Miles would be born and other things that I don't really remember. Finally we both started to doze off and then my water broke! As I reached to press the nurse call button the Resident on call and two nurses came rushing in. Apparently when my water broke, it caused Miles' heart rate to drop so they were coming in to check on him. That's all it took. I was at 10 cm and it was time to push!
Peter called mom and they had just walked into the hospital. It worked out perfectly. While mom and dad made their way to our room, the nurses prepped. I pushed through 4 contractions and he was here!

It kind of scares me to think that we checked into the hospital at 2:00 and he was born at 5:17! Thank god I didn't wait any longer before I called the doctor!
Here's some pics:

Totally surprised that he was smaller than Ella!

Smiles all around!

Checking out their 5th grandchild!

So Miles was born at 5am on the 8th. We checked out of the hospital at 11:30am on the 9th! Yikes! It was totally crazy. But that hospital bed was so uncomfortable I was more than happy to leave!

Our first morning together!

5 days old!
