I'm One!!!

Well, despite last minute scrambling and the loss of one hour due to daylight savings time, Miles' first birthday party went off without a hitch!!
We had probably about twenty people here. It was a gorgeous day, we grilled, and the kids played outside. Miles actually ate his cake, and both kids took a nap right after everyone left. It was the perfect day!

He loved loved loved the balloons. He had no interest in any of his presents. He still doesn't, actually. He is still playing with the balloons!

The kids played inside for about twenty minutes and then I shuffled them all out the door and they spent the rest of the afternoon playing out in the back yard. I wish I would have got some pictures, but I was busy running around, so I forgot.

The cake eating was the best! I tried to capture the order in which things happened. A few people ended up missing it because it happened so fast.

I put the tray down with the cake on it, and he grabbed it with both hands and tried to figure out how to pick it up. See how he is analyzing?

Then he just went for it! Picked the whole piece up and leaned forward and dove right in!!

Then I think he decided he didn't like the sticky feeling on his hands so he proceeded to just lean down and lick all the cake up. It was so funny!

Getting hosed off after the cake.

Presents!

Until next time...

It was a great day. Happy Birthday Miles!!

We had his one year check-up today and he is doing great. He is 50th percentile for weight and 80th for height! Just to get an idea of how big he is-his 'My 1st Birthday' onesie that he wore at the party was size 24 months!
He is walking along the couch and pulling himself up on everything. He has a lot of control, but is still not interested in taking that first step. In the last few days he has started to stand freely. I will hold his hands and then let go and he will make it for about 10 seconds before he folds at the knees and zooms away!
He can crawl up the stairs now. Kind of scary since if he falls it will be back down on to a hard wood floor.
He hasn't said any words yet either. He screeches when he wants something basically.
His pediatrician says that he gives them to 15 months to say their first word(s). So that's our goal. By June he better be saying "Mama"!
He loves to play with Ella. They play peek-a-boo, where he will actually make a 'Boo' kind of sound to get her to come out from behind her blanket. They also play their version of tag. Ella tags him and says "You're it!" and then he crawls after her.
Hopefully he'll start walkin' and talkin' here soon. We will keep you posted.

This has been one of the best years! Peter and I are doing really well, Blake is becoming such a wonderful young man, Ella is growing into a smart young girl, and Miles is hands down the best baby on the planet!
All good things!
Thanks to all of our friends and family for making Miles' birthday a wonderful memory.

Yay! You were right that he was absolutely adorable, funny, and cute as a bug! Glad he had a great 1st birthday. Wish I could have been there.
